The Science of Neuroinclusive Design

Our surroundings shape how we think, feel and function. For neurodivergent individuals, the environment can either support concentration, emotional regulation and independence—or contribute to sensory overload, anxiety and everyday challenges.

As both a medical doctor working with neurodiverse children and young people and an interior designer, I combine clinical insight with evidence-informed design to create spaces that genuinely support wellbeing. My approach bridges the gap between healthcare and interior design, translating an understanding of ADHD, autism and sensory processing into practical, beautiful environments that work for the people who use them.

Rather than focusing solely on aesthetics, I design homes, learning environments and workspaces that reduce unnecessary cognitive load, support executive functioning, encourage positive routines and promote a sense of calm. Every recommendation is tailored to the individual's strengths, sensory preferences and daily needs, recognising that no two neurodivergent people experience the world in the same way.

Whether supporting a family creating a home for a child with ADHD or autism, advising schools on inclusive learning environments, or helping organisations develop neuroinclusive workplaces, my goal is the same: to create spaces where people can thrive, not simply cope.

Dr Xirou's Approach

Dr Xirou's approach her client's needs and style with the utmost dedication and sincerity, recognising that effective communication is paramount. Her goal is to understand and fulfil her client's desires and needs, turning their dreams into reality.

Evidence-Based. Person-Centred. Beautiful by Design.

Neuroinclusive design is not about creating clinical spaces or following a one-size-fits-all formula. It is about understanding the relationship between the brain, the senses and the environment, and using that knowledge to make thoughtful design decisions that improve everyday life. By combining medical expertise with interior design, I help clients create environments that are functional, supportive and aesthetically timeless.
